RESPONSIBILITIES

Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Engineer (Engineering & Design) to be based in Burghfield on a contract basis.

Our client, a leading organisation within the UK nuclear sector, is looking for a proactive and technically skilled Senior Engineer to support the design, manufacturing, construction, and commissioning processes for multiple engineered door systems within a complex infrastructure project.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys solving technical challenges, and is passionate about delivering high-quality engineering outcomes.

General Responsibilities

  • Support manufacturing, construction and commissioning activities by representing engineering across all project stages.

  • Author and respond to Design Change Notes, Technical Queries, Concessions and Commissioning Reservations.

  • Produce and review technical documentation including assessments, reports and design notes.

  • Manage requirements and maintain full traceability through project documentation.

  • Oversee reservation management and review inspection and test plans.

  • Progress engineering deliverables through the document management system.

  • Work closely with the Design Manager to resolve manufacturing, installation and commissioning challenges.

  • Assist in the certification of design processes, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and governance.

  • Review drawings and ensure they align with design intent and technical requirements.

  • Attend supplier meetings and provide engineering input to technical discussions.

  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across internal teams, suppliers and project partners.

  • Coordinate the development and delivery of Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Manuals with the supply chain and stakeholders.

About the Role

The role supports the delivery of several complex engineered door packages from design through to commissioning. With multiple suppliers and intricate designs involved, it requires a confident engineer capable of managing technical issues, coordinating with stakeholders, and maintaining progress in line with the project programme.

You’ll be supported by a Design Manager for direction but will need to work independently to manage tasks efficiently and drive completion across key deliverables.

About You

  • Proven experience as an engineer within mechanical, design or nuclear sectors.

  • Strong understanding of design, engineering change control and documentation management processes.

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Able to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Effective stakeholder management and supplier coordination skills.

  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

  • Proficient in document management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
